Spent half of my weekend importing the new remastered Beatles box set into iTunes.
"When, in a generation or so, a radio-active, cigar-smoking child, picnicking on Saturn, asks you what the Beatle affair was all about - 'Did you actually know them?' - don't try to explain all about the long hair and the screams! Just play the child a few tracks from this album and he'll probably understand what it was all about. The kids of AD 2000 will draw from the music much the same sense of well being and warmth as we do today."
Amazing 1953 Video of Les Paul, Mary Ford, and a very young Alistair Cooke.
Really fine new record (do I date myself?) reuniting Marc Olson and
Gary Louris of the original Jayhawks. Saw the Louris-only Jayhawks a
while back and they were pretty good but these guys together have a
magical sound. They were in the area recently and, after hearing this
one, I'm sorry I missed them.
The Murfreesboro, Tenn. based band Glossary have (has?) released their (its?) fifth album The Better Angels Of Our Nature as a free download at their web site. Stylistically, they're solidly in the Drive By Truckers Southern Rock camp. In fact, they're opening for the Truckers at a number of upcoming Midwest shows. I know there are some DBT fans out there in the Vox-hood, so you might want to check it out.
Here's one that I like a lot. Kinda reminds me of the Bodeans.....
